Obituaries

Funeral services for Rev. Thomas Lee Stone of Vienna will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery in Crisp County.  The family will greet friends prior to the service Friday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.   Rev. Stone, 72, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.  He was born in Fitzgerald and was the son of the late Furman Lee and Lucille Aldean Miller Stone.  He was the pastor of Midway Independent Methodist Church in Lilly.  A United States Air Force veteran, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and wood craftsman.  Rev. Stone had been involved in law enforcement much of his life, having served as Police Chief (RET) of Byromville and in Fitzgerald.   He was Public Safety Director in Cordele and Director of the Police Academy in Rome.  He is survived by his wife, Deanna Elaine Stone of Vienna;  three children and their spouses, John David and Angela Stone of Charleston, SC, Cheryl Lynn and Johnny Barefoot of Seville and Donna Leigh and Wendell Swearingen of Eastman;  a brother and his wife, David Everett and Dena Stone of Hawkinsville;  a sister and her husband, Peggy Joyce and John Wrenn of Sumter, SC; and seven grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew F. Stone and a brother, Timothy Howard Stone.
